First Aid
Training as a first aider for the workplace can make a real difference to the lives and well-being of your colleagues.
First aid provision in the workplace saves lives. It can prevent injuries from worsening and can help employers reduce costs from injury. It is a legal obligation for every single employer to make sure that their employees receive the right first aid care in the workplace.
Both courses are taught to comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, current First Aid at Work Regulations (including Health and Safety (first aid) regulations 1981) and the Approved Code of Practice
How many first aiders are required?
The following table offers guidance to the suggested minimum number of first aid personnel in the workplace but is no replacement for a thorough risk assessment.
Please note the first aid regulations will change with effect from 1 October 2009.
(e.g. shops, offices)
(e.g. light engineering, food processing, warehousing)
(e.g. construction, chemical manufacturing, dangerous machinery)
Table from ACoP L74, issued March 1997 - correct as at January 2008
